Skiing with a Sea View – The most unusual ski areas of the world

No addition to the traditional ski areas in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, there are some even more exotic spots for adventuresome winter sport fans. Sicily: Dance on the volcano

Go skiing on the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea? What at first sounds somewhat absurd actually harbours a special appeal for skiers. Sicily’s landmark, Mount Etna, offers the unique opportunity to ski down the slopes of Europe’s highest active volcano. A special highlight is the ocean view, which is available from almost everywhere on the mountain.

Lesotho: Ski safari

For most holiday-makers, Africa and safari go hand in hand, but have you ever been on a ski safari? In 2005, the Kingdom of Lesotho, an enclave in the Republic of South Africa fully surrounded by its neighbour country, opened the ski area Afri-Ski at an elevation of about 3000 meters. In 2010, it was host to the South African ski and snowboard championships.
